rainy monday

Happy Monday, everyone. Just a quick post. It was a rainy Monday (sort of--at least it started out that way. It rained a lot more at home than where I work), so I opted for a cozy/casual look. I used to dress up much more for work, but honestly, everyone in the office is in jeans these days, so I have found myself joining in.  Not sure how I feel about it yet. What do you wear to work?

sunday cold day

sunday cold day 5 sunday cold day 4 sunday cold day 3 sunday cold day 2 sunday cold day

Thanks so much to everyone who has clicked through from my old blog and to those of you who have left comments. I feel so welcomed and supported! You guys are all sweet. I know not everyone is interested in clothes and style, so I wanted to put my outfit posts on a new blog, and it has been so fun so far.

Saturday was so warm and lovely, but the weather turned cold on Sunday.  You never know what you are going to get around here!  I decided to pull together a cozy outfit for the storytelling festival and forgo ideas I'd had about wearing a cute dress.

I picked up this military jacket on sale at the Gap last fall, and it has turned out to be such a fun piece to mix!  It's every bit as versatile as a jean jacket, but a bit more fresh right now.   Now, since I bought this one, I've seen tons of similar jackets in every store, including newer styles at the Gap.  A good time to buy if you are looking for one.

black top, patterned khakis, and military jacket:  all Gap

storytelling weekend

storytelling weekend 4 storytelling weekend 2 storytelling weekend 3

Can I just say once again that I love the weekend? One of the huge (many) benefits of working is getting to enjoy a true weekend feeling. I may require big pats on the back (mostly I give these to myself*) for being a working mom and going to a stressful job every day. But it doesn't mean that I don't want to work. It's complex, ya know? But I'm grateful I get to work.

Anyway, here is what I am wearing today. We're spending most of the weekend going back and forth to our local storytelling festival, and the weather is perfect today. Warm enough for shorts and a tee, but not too hot.

I have a lot of thoughts/questions about wearing shorts at my age. My main thought is that I don't want to give them up because it gets hot here in the warmer months. But I have an eye toward going for some longer, knee-length shorts pretty soon.  I may not be fully appropriate in these shorter shorts, but I also like being myself and not sticking to closely to the rules.

Outfit details:
tee:  J. Crew
shorts:  L.L. Bean Signature
belt: Gap (years ago)
sandals:  Gap
necklace:  a cherished gift from my dear friend Carrie.  It's vintage.

*Next weekend Carrie and I are meeting for a friend-weekend in Covina, and we'll be doing this
PS--also, if you live in/near Covina, please leave comments with your suggestions.  Would love to hear about any "local" spots.

oh friday!

oh friday! 3 oh friday! 2 oh friday!

The week went fast, but the last two days were exhausting. So glad to have made it to Friday! This is an example of how the boot cut pants are flattering, but a little middle-aged lady, yes? Do I care so much about that? Not really, but I do like mixing the jean silhouettes around a bit just for variety. Happy weekend everyone!  And thanks so much for stopping by this blog!

chevrons!

chevrons 2 chevrons chevrons 3 chevrons 4

The weather turned hot today, so I was glad to be wearing a summery dress at work. When I saw this dress in the store, I made a beeline for it. Love the lineny fabric and the pretty chevrons and the fitted waist. The fact that it has wide straps makes it super work appropriate too.  Like yesterday, I only wore the sweater a short time, but I feel it needs to be documented because this is how the outfit started its day.

trench coat look

trench coat look 2 trench coat look 1 trench coat look 3

This look is from last week when it was much colder and practically rained! (Exciting for Southern California. In truth, though, it only misted. Still exciting stuff). I should have photographed the outfit without the jacket. I was feeling pretty good about the trench layered over stripes. Sort of wish I'd bought a slimmer cut trench, but this was on major sale at Gap after Christmas and I pounced on it.

Outfit details:
mid-rise skinny jeans:  Levis
trench:  Gap
striped top:  Old Navy
wedges:  Clarks

skinny pants?

work look work look work look work look

Here is what I wore to work today. The sweater only lasted a short time before I had to take it off. It got unexpectedly warm early in the day. Still trying to figure out if the skinny pant look works for me (or for this age group)? I think clearly a boot cut or flare style of pant is MUCH more flattering, but still. Skinny pants are what is in style right now and when I go too boot cut panted too often I really feel like I'm slipping into middle aged lady territory.

Discuss.
