sightseeing outfit 1 :: Solvang

Sightseeing outfit 1Sightseeing outfit 1 Sightseeing outfit 1 sightseeing outfit 1

We just returned from a very chill trip to Solvang.  The purpose of the trip was to attend the PCPA outdoor theater production of Shrek:  The Musical (which was excellent, by the way, although freezing outdoors at night).  Otherwise we were just enjoying the hotel pool and jacuzzi, eating delicious food, visiting the miniature pony farm, visiting Ostrich Land USA, and similar fun and low stress stuff.

Outfit details:
top w/ lacy overlay:  old, J. Crew
tailored shorts:  Loft (hard to tell here but they are very dark denim and sort of high waisted)
sandals:  Tevas
bag:  Good West Co.
sunglasses:  Oliver Peoples

The bag, shorts, sunglasses, and sandals are all new this year and I'm very happy with them.  As I mentioned before, I'm just starting a one year journey of not buying any new clothes, and at this point I'm feeling very well equipped for the year, although it will be interesting to see how my feelings evolve over the course twelve months  It just occurred to me that I jumped into this project without having found or purchased a trend I'm really interested in:  wide-legged pants.  Oops!  I wonder if I will still want them next year?  Or will I ask for them as a gift at Christmas?  We'll see.

throwback navy skirt

Here is a throwback look to a skirt I've had since 2012. I love this skirt but sadly it shrank in the wash recently and now the over layer is shorter than the lining.  I'm not digging it.  It looks like this skirt will be retired soon.  I'm pretty bereft about it.

I'm pretty sure I've worn this skirt on the blog before, and also here.  By the way, this little leather jacket is proving so fun to layer over skirts and dresses.  Im liking it much more than a jeans jacket!

skirt:  J. Crew (old)
top:  J. Crew (last year)
sandals:  Clarks (old)

a work look for a tuesday

work work work work look on a tuesday

Here is what I wore to work today. I think I like these chambray pants from Anthro, but they sure do stretch out a lot--even though I sized down!  Actually, looking at these photos--and doing this blog in general--make me really curious about what is the most flattering work pant?  I hope to answer that question eventually.

Faith and I found this top while thrifting.  We both were dying over it.  She took it first, but she just can't handle any kind of gathers or puffed sleeves, so I ended up with it.  I love the bright embroidery on the front.

It is just cool enough in the mornings to layer on a light cardigan.  My office is warm so I end up peeling off layers daily (sadly), but it is fun to layer even briefly.

pants:  Anthro

swirlly

travel tee travel tee travel tee travel tee

Happy Wednesday! I am linking up for What I Wore Wednesday this week.  I love this skirt so much.  I've written about it before here.  It is SO swirly and fun.  I pair it with a variety of tees.  It looks great with stripes but I love it with this "travel" tee as well (it has cities written all around the edge in a square).  Speaking of travel and cities, my daughter Faith is spending an academic year in Madrid.  I'm planning on visiting her in the spring.  So exciting!

Outfit details:
tee:  J. Crew (it is a linen tee and I love the drape)
skirt:  J. Crew
wedges:  Clark's

easy monday

easy monday 3 easy monday 2 easy monday 4 easy monday

I know I've already worn this dress on the blog, but I love the idea of showing real daily outfits. I needed the world's easiest outfit today since I got in last night from my trip and it was bright and early back to work this morning.  Also, I was interested in styling this dress a little differently this time (the last time I posted this dress it came off as more "middle aged" than I had anticipated!).  I love a jean jacket for making a dress seem a little more textured and casual.  I changed out the belt and shoes too, and added a necklace with more color.

What are you wearing this week?  It looks like it's going to be pretty warm here, so I'm going for dresses on some days and pants with sleeveless tops on the others.  I think dresses for work are the easiest thing out there.

Outfit details:
dress:  Lands' End
belt and necklace:  Anthro
wedges:  Clarks
denim jacket:  Old Navy
bracelet:  Etsy (Young Frankk shop)
